The CMMC program, established by the Department of Defense (DoD), is designed to enhance the protection of sensitive data within the Defense Industrial Base (DIB). The program’s three levels of certification incorporate security requirements based on existing regulations and guidelines. CMMC Level 1 focuses on the basic safeguarding of FCI and requires an annual self-assessment along with affirmation of compliance with 15 essential security requirements, as outlined in the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) clause 52.204-21.
